The incident happened around 2:45 a.m. Saturday on the 200 block of Cabrillo Street. A man told police he had just gotten home from work when he saw another man standing near his mother's car.
The man confronted the suspect and the two got into a fight. He called for his son to help. The suspect then pulled out a gun and shot the man's 19-year-old son once in the chest. The victim was taken to the hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
The gunman ran off with another suspect. Police believe the two suspects were committing car burglaries in the area.
