Flames ripped through a Downey house early Thursday morning, burning through the attic of the home.

The blaze broke out in the 7200 block of Coolgrove Avenue just before 1 a.m. About a dozen firefighters raced to the scene and found smoke pouring out of the house and flames shooting through the roof.

It took them just under a half an hour to put the blaze out.

A man and woman inside made it out of the house safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
