At 17.5 pounds, Larry the lobster was as big as a small dog. He had spent the past few months at the Dock Restaurant in Niantic, waiting to be served on a plate.
But then Don MacKenzie arrived. An admitted lobster lover, MacKenzie bought Larry this week and immediately took a boat trip to Long Island Sound.
"We found him a nice spot about 25 to 30 feet deep. There are a lot of rocks around there that will hopefully dodge the draggers. He's too big to fit into a lobster pot," said MacKenzie.
Larry is believed to be about 80 years old. The exact location of his new home is being kept a secret in hopes he'll be able to enjoy his unexpected retirement.
