Hollywood Foreign Press Association gives $1M+ in grants at annual luncheon

LOS ANGELES

John Travolta was among the celebrities who attended the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's annual luncheon.

The HFPA awarded a total of $1.2 million to several college scholarship programs, entertainment-related charities and foundations. The biggest grant was $250,000 that went to The Film Foundation.

"Protecting film, this profound analog art form, is a race against the clock. The Film Foundation has been winning this race since 1990 when Marty Scorsese, George Lucas and I started to realize that the films that we loved were physically disappearing before our very eyes," said Steven Spielberg, who has been involved with the foundation for 22 years.
