Smartphone, iPad thefts up on trains, buses - Metro warns

LOS ANGELES

Metro officials said there has been a 47-percent increase in cellphone thefts during the first half of this year. Many occurred when passengers were getting on and off trains and buses.

On July 16, a man grabbed an iPad from a Metro rider at the Compton Station, according to authorities. Investigators have released surveillance pictures of the suspect.

Anyone with information about the suspect was asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Transit Services Bureau at (323) 563-5000.
