Teen strikes new plea deal in Fontana hazing case, to testify against his teacher

FONTANA, Calif.

Fernando Salgado, 18, pleaded guilty to an assault with a deadly weapon charge and false imprisonment in a Fontana Superior Court Friday, but withdrew his plea to a sexual assault charge.

The former A.B. Miller High School student is charged with attempting to sodomize a classmate with a broomstick handle and a steel bar in a masonry class.

He had originally pleaded guilty to a sexual penetration with a foreign object charge but has since withdrawn from the plea to keep from having to register as a sex offender.

In exchange, Salgado will also testify against his teacher Emmanuel de la Rosa who was also charged and arrested in the incident. According to prosecutors, de la Rosa not only knew about the hazing, but allegedly directed the students to sexually assault one of the alleged victims.

De la Rosa has pleaded not guilty to numerous charges including child sex abuse.
