Authorities say the fire, which broke out Saturday night in steep terrain, blackened 364 acres. Crews were able to get the upper hand on the blaze despite windy conditions and triple-digit temperatures Monday.
The cause of the fire was determined to be recreational shooting near Old Banning-Idyllwild Road at Shirleon Drive. Four firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze, and two mobile homes were destroyed.
Full control of the fire was estimated for 8 a.m. Tuesday.
