The Los Angeles City Council voted to finalize approval of to two back-to-back rate increases Tuesday.
A 4.9-percent hike goes into effect on the next bill. A 6-percent hike will go into effect next summer.
The increases are expected to generate more than $300 million for the utility. It says it will use the extra money for projects like rebuilding power plants.
The rate hikes passed by a 9-4 vote Tuesday.
