The Pentagon is investigating why a Navy submarine USS Montpelier collided with an Aegis cruiser USS San Jacinto during what were supposed to be routine operations Saturday.

According to the U.S. Fleet Forces Command, the collision happened around 3:30 p.m. off the East Coast. Due to security concerns, the exact location of the collision has not been released.

Navy officials have not released specifics on what exactly happened but have reported that no one was injured in the collision.

The extent of the damage is also unclear. However, both Norfolk, Virginia based ships are returning to the port operating under their own power.
