However, it took a while for many to get to the mountains Tuesday afternoon. Traffic on Highway 18 was backed up for miles, and busy highways meant busy slopes at snow valley.

The Yeargin family of Scottsdale, Ariz., has been spending Christmas in the mountains for years.

"It's our family tradition that we come up and go skiing, so we're really excited because they got some new snow," said Amber Yeargin.

At Snow Valley Mountain Resort, Christmas presents for many came in the form of lift tickets. The resort had seven lifts open. For those who don't like to ski or snowboard, there was always sledding.

Snow Valley had been open for about a week and a half. There was plenty of great snow on Christmas, but the resort hoped for even more snow later in the night.
