'General Hospital' alums return for golden anniversary

LOS ANGELES

She's back! Genie Francis grew up on "General Hospital." Over the years, she's come and gone, but the impact she made as "Laura" has always remained.

"I remember profoundly going to the 14th anniversary of this show as a 14-year-old girl," said Genie.

"If this event had passed, the 50th anniversary of a show that gave me a wonderful life, and I wasn't there to celebrate it, it would just feel so wrong, so awful," said Genie. "So I'm glad that that's not how it went, because I'm here in the spirit of this event and with a very grateful heart."

"General Hospital's" show-runner is thrilled to bring the show's past into the future.

"It feels like they've come home," said executive producer Frank Valentini. "At least for the next six to eight weeks, you'll see a lot of the veterans front and center and a lot more surprises coming up throughout the months of February, March and through April."

"But to re-visit a character I hadn't played for 23 years was a little scary because, I didn't know what that would be like but I've loved it," said Ian Buchanan, who plays "Duke Lavery."

"I like playing 'Anna' because of her strength and because I get to be a tough woman in a man's world," said Finola Hughes, who plays "Anna Devane."

And in this soap world, before the pairing of "Luke and Laura," "GH" had "Scotty and Laura." And Kin Shriner is coming back as "Scotty," hoping to win back his true love.

"I hope so," said Kin. "I have been, you know, been in love with her since I was a kid in Port Charles. So this is a dream come true to hopefully try and win her back."

Laura and Scotty Baldwin have a past. Will they have a future?

"It's looking like there's a little bit of a future," said Genie Francis. "I think that their recent past is going to be revealed a bit so we'll see. There are plenty of surprises coming. And more people coming, by the way, more surprises that way as well."

Meaning more people from the "golden years"? "Yes!" said Genie.

You'll see Kin Shriner back as "Scotty Baldwin" on Feb. 19. And expect more names from the "GH" past to keep coming, including Jackie Zeman, who played "Nurse Bobby" for so many years.
