Drop-side cribs recalled due to faulty rails

PLANO, Texas

PT Domusindo Perdana drop-side cribs are sold exclusively at JCPenney stores. The drop sides of the cribs were found to malfunction, detach or otherwise fail. Infants and toddlers can injure themselves or possibly be suffocated or strangled in a gap of space created by the drop sides.

About 73,000 units are being recalled. The units were sold from January 1998 through December 2008.

For a full list of model numbers and product names, visit the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's page for this recall. The name, model number and date codes are printed on the plywood mattress board.

CPSC and the manufacturer are aware of three incidents involving drop-side rails that malfunctioned or detached. No injuries were reported.

Affected consumers should immediately discontinue using the cribs. A free immobilizer kit will be available in May from Modus Furniture International at (800) 827-2129 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday; or visit the firm's website at Savannababy.com and click on the Recall tab for more information.
