According to the Los Angeles Times, United Teachers Los Angeles said more than 90 percent of its union members who voted in a weeklong referendum expressed disapproval with Deasy. More than half of the teachers voted.
The vote is believed to be linked to some of Deasy's recent proposals, including a student evaluation system, limits on teacher seniority and a speed-up in dismissals of teachers accused of misconduct.
Before the outcome was announced, Deasy had called the vote "nonsense."
