Azusa street fight investigation underway

AZUSA, Calif.

The incident occurred on the 300 block of South Vernon Avenue around 3 a.m.

Officers responding to a report of a street fight found a severely wounded 36-year-old male laying on the sidewalk suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper body.

The victim who was only identified as a Banning resident was transported to a local hospital where he died of his wounds.

A second man also suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper body. He was transported by a friend to a local hospital. The man, whose identity has been withheld, is expected to survive.

Stella Chaves says she heard a loud noise around 2:30 a.m. and soon realized there was a fight happening right outside her house.

"I looked out my window, I was sneaking out my blinds and I saw a scuffle," said Chaves. "Two boys across the street were fighting. One ran south. Another ran north."

No one has been arrested. Police say it remains unclear whether the fatal fight was connected to a nearby party.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the stabbing was urged to contact the Azusa Police Department at (626) 812-3200.
