A misdemeanor hit-and-run charge against singer Chris Brown was dismissed Thursday. The charge stemmed from an accident in Toluca Lake in May.

Brown did not appear in court Thursday. The judge in the case said a "civil compromise" had been reached in the May 21 accident.

The motorist involved in the accident agreed to the deal because she was reportedly being "castigated" on social media.

A deputy city attorney objected to the deal, but he said no money exchanged hands between Brown and the other party.

The incident could have been ruled as a probation violation for Brown, who remains on probation for the assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. The singer could have faced up to a year in jail.
