The crash happened just after 11:45 p.m. Saturday on Ventura Boulevard just east of Fairway Avenue.
Police said the victim was crossing the street when a white Mercedes Benz CLS hit him, carried him about 100 yards and took off. It's not known if the man was in a crosswalk.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
Police said the car sustained major damage in the front and possibly a smashed windshield. Officers said the car had black paper plates with the word "Encino" written in yellow.
