Investigators say the victim was pulling into work, when he was rear-ended by a 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo that was estimated to be going 95 mph.
Police later identified the victim as Armando Aceves, 47, of Covina. According to police, Aceves suffered multiple blunt-force trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The impact was so violent that it caused his death. He was pronounced dead at the scene," described Detective Felix Padilla with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police say the driver of the Monte Carlo and two other passengers abandoned the car and fled the scene on foot. Two remaining passengers in the vehicle, Luigi Velasquez and Amado Marcial, both 20 of Los Angeles, suffered severe injuries and were taken to local hospitals. Velasquez is in critical condition and on life support, and Marcial is in stable condition, according to police.
