Man walking home from church killed in South Los Angeles hit-and-run

SOUTH LOS ANGELES

Family members say 16-year-old Nathan Mota was walking in a crosswalk on the 4200 block of Normandie Avenue. Mota had just left St. Cecilia Catholic Church, where he was an usher.

"He was always there to help, always caring," said Delmi Massella, the victim's cousin. "He had the best hugs...that you just can't describe. And unfortunately, in a heartbeat, it's gone."

Mota was very involved in his church. He lived just a couple of blocks away. Family members say a lot of cars speed up and down Normandie Avenue even though there is a marked crosswalk.

A description of the suspect vehicle was not immediately available. Anyone with information was asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.

It was earlier reported that Nathan Mota was 18 years old. It was later confirmed that he was 16 years old.
