The Orange City Council is reconsidering the ordinance which would require registered sex offenders to post a sign outside their homes on Halloween that say "no candy or treats at this residence."
In addition, required offenders would be ordered to keep their lights off from dusk to midnight on Oct. 31 and stay clear of trick-or-treaters. They are also banned from decorating their home or opening their doors to trick-or-treaters.
A federal lawsuit was filed challenging the ordinance saying the signs could make sex offenders targets.
The city attorney is proposing removing the sign requirement only.
