Stanton hunter missing in Needles-area mountains

NEEDLES, Calif.

Greg Monroe, 62, departed for a hunting trip to the New York Mountains in the Needles area of California on October 29. When he did not return, family members contacted the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department to report him missing.

Personnel from the Needles station began searching for Monroe on Monday morning. Monroe's vehicle was located in the area of Pino Valley within the New York Mountain range, according to the department. It was locked and undisturbed in a remote area west of Highway 95, east of I-15 and north of I-40.

Tuesday, volunteers joined sheriff's personnel in the search, totaling approximately 28 searchers, the department said.

Wednesday, aircraft, more people and a K-9 unit joined the search.
