Los Angeles Mission serves Thanksgiving meal to thousands

LOS ANGELES

The stoves in the Mission's kitchen were working full steam starting early in the morning. The menu included all the traditional fixings like stuffing, green beans and cranberry sauce - as well as 3,500 pounds of turkey.

Celebrity chef Ray Garcia, who runs Fig in Santa Monica, cooked up a specialty dish just for the occasion - chili glazed carrots. He said it's his first time cooking on Thanksgiving at the Mission, and was excited to help feed the thousands of people at the annual event.

Hundreds of volunteers began serving the Thanksgiving meal at 11 a.m., and up to 4,000 people were expected to be fed by the end of the event.
