Burbank teen lied about abduction, police say

BURBANK, Calif.

The 16-year-old girl told Burbank Police she was kidnapped on Sunday while walking near her home in the hills of north Burbank and sexually assaulted. She said she was dropped off in an alley near Keystone Street and Magnolia Boulevard at 7:20 p.m. An unidentified citizen then called police.

The teen was hospitalized and has since been released.

Police investigated the scenes of the abduction and the drop-off, but did not offer details on the location of the reported abduction. Additional resources were called in to conduct a thorough investigation of the alleged incident, police said, and it was determined the teenage victim created the story of the alleged kidnapping.

The Burbank Police Department said in a statement that it takes all reports of this nature seriously and will continue to take all of the necessary steps to ensure the community's safety.
