Loma Linda University gas leak prompts evacuations

LOMA LINDA, Calif.

The rupture was reported around 9:30 a.m. when students reported smelling gas.

The Loma Linda City Fire Department responded within minutes and determined the leak was coming from a nearby construction site. Authorities say crews accidentally clipped a 2-inch gas line.

Approximately 120 people were evacuated. The gas company arrived shortly after and said they closed the gash.

Students were given the all-clear indication to return to class. Loma Linda University Medical Center was not affected.
