Patrick Odoikyene was working as a private security officer at 4201 Via Marina Drive at the Shores apartment complex when he was fatally shot around 2:40 a.m. on Dec. 30.
Byron Keith Street, 47, has been charged with murder, burglary, felony vandalism and felon in possession of a firearm. He is expected to be arraigned on Thursday.
According to detectives, Street was arrested for an unrelated felony fraud charge by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies at the direction of homicide detectives the day after the murder. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
