Man charged in LAPD patrol car vandalism case

HOLLYWOOD

Leyston Rice, 27, smashed in two passenger-side windows and the rear window of an LAPD car near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue for reasons unknown.

The suspect also stole the officers' laptop during the rampage, which was carried out in broad daylight Tuesday afternoon.

Video shows Rice using metal stakes to smash the windows and then removing the computer from the car. Instead of trying to get away, Rice is seen casually walking to a nearby kiosk to casually use the device. That's when LAPD officers responded, tackled, and arrested the suspect.

The damage to the LAPD patrol car was estimated at more than $2,600, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The motive for the rampage remains unknown.

If convicted, Rice faces up to three years in jail.
