AZUSA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 28-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking in Azusa early Thursday.

The incident occurred in the 200 block of South Irwindale Avenue at 12:23 a.m.

The victim appeared to be walking within the confines of the marked crosswalk, according to witness accounts. The suspect may have been speeding.

The suspect's vehicle was described as a dark-colored or tan Mercedes-Benz or BMW. Investigators believe the vehicle may have a cracked or broken windshield and damage to the right front.

The victim was rushed from the scene to Los Angeles County-USC Hospital in an ambulance.
