Pilot hospitalized after biplane crashes in Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. (KABC) -- The pilot of a biplane was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries after crashing into a dry river bed in the eastern portion of Redlands Tuesday.

The biplane, tail number N417LG, crashed into the Santa Ana River Wash, just west of Florida Street, at about 12:12 p.m.

The pilot, who was the only person on board, was extricated from the plane by responding Redlands firefighters. He was conscious and talking, officials said.

There was no indication of what may have caused the crash, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.

The National Transportation Safety Board was also notified.
