Body found in water at Newport Beach; cause of death unknown

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A death investigation is underway after some beach walkers stumbled upon a body in Newport Beach early Saturday morning.

Investigators say the group called police after spotting a young man in the water near 32nd Street and West Oceanfront shortly after 1:30 a.m.

Medics performed CPR but were unable to revive the man.

The victim's identity was not immediately released. The cause of death remains under investigation.
