Suspect in South LA clerk stabbing faces capital murder charges

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A robbery suspect faces capital murder charges for fatally stabbing a South Los Angeles clerk in January.

Travell Mossett, 37, is set to be arraigned Thursday at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On Jan. 13, Mossett walked into the Louisiana Fried Chicken and Donuts shop on Broadway and Florence avenues. He demanded cash and then fled the scene.

The shop owner's son, 29-year-old Andrew Ung, then chased Mossett, who then fatally stabbed Ung in the parking lot, authorities said.

If Mossett is convicted of capital murder, he faces life without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. A decision to seek the death penalty will be made at a later date.

The case is still under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
