CASTAIC, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was killed and six people injured in an accident on the northbound 5 Freeway in Castaic Sunday afternoon.



The accident was initially reported as a red minivan versus a truck collision shortly before 2 p.m. on the freeway north of Lake Hughes Road, according to California Highway Patrol.



Two pickup trucks had reportedly stopped on the right shoulder. Three people were outside the vehicles, adjusting the load they were carrying when another pickup truck suddenly slammed into them. A woman was pronounced dead at the scene.



A SigAlert was issued and two of the four northbound lanes were temporarily closed, with traffic backed up for miles.
