SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A 5-year-old boy was struck in the forehead with a BB gun pellet while sitting in the back yard of his home in San Bernardino.

Deputies were dispatched to the 3300 block of North Conejo Drive on Saturday after receiving reports that a child was the victim of an assault with an unknown firearm.

Investigators later determined that the firearm was a BB gun.

The child was transported to Loma Linda University Children's Hospital, where he received care for his wound, which was described as superficial.

Witnesses say the suspects responsible are two local juveniles named Alan and Larry. The two, who are between 13 and 17 years old, apparently fled the location northbound on Conejo Drive prior to deputies' arrival.
