SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect was arrested near San Bernardino International Airport after allegedly stealing a tractor-trailer on Monday. Authorities said the big-rig was stolen out of San Bernardino on Memorial Day.
Wednesday at about 3:15 p.m., police ran the license plate of the vehicle on the westbound 60 Freeway in Fontana and discovered it was stolen. The suspect did not pull over when officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect continued driving westbound on the 60, then northbound on the 15 Freeway to the eastbound 10, then exited in the San Bernardino area. The suspect drove the big-rig through intersections at stoplights and stop signs. At least one stop sign was run over.
At about 4 p.m. the suspect stopped to let a woman and a dog out of the cab. That woman was detained.
CHP officers chased the suspect at slow speeds around the roadways near the airport. The man exited the vehicle at about 4:30 p.m. in the middle of a roadway at Arrowhead Avenue and Valley Street and lay prone on the asphalt. Officers arrested the suspect there without incident for grand-theft big-rig, according to police, and other charges.
Traffic in the area was affected.
