SAN FRANCISCO -- A California Highway Patrol officer was stabbed by a man with a knife near a homeless encampment in San Francisco Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The CHP officer was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition after being stabbed at 3rd and Harrison streets near an on-ramp to the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge around 10:30 a.m.
What sparked the stabbing was not immediately known. Police say a suspect was arrested. His name and age were not released.
Authorities were advising people to avoid the area during the investigation.
