Compton shootings blocks apart leave 1 dead, 2 wounded

COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was killed and two others wounded in two separate shootings just blocks apart in Compton Wednesday night.

The first shooting occurred in the parking lot of a Food 4 Less grocery store near Rosecrans and Central avenues at about 9 p.m. A woman suffered a gunshot wound to her torso and was transported to a local hospital, where she was listed in serious condition. A man who was shot in his hip was treated and released from the hospital.

In the second shooting, a man was killed in the 1400 block of South Hillford Avenue. Officials say a firearm was recovered near his body.

It remains unknown if the shootings are related. The investigation is ongoing.
