Husband shot while protecting family during Atlanta home invasion

ATLANTA -- A young Atlanta family that survived a brutal home invasion on Sunday is recounting the harrowing tale.

Mike Lash and Whitney Lash said they had just returned from vacation when two young men knocked on their door and asked for a car jack.

"Right about that moment, I saw them pull the gun on Mike," Whitney Lash said.

Mike Lash was shot three times in the leg before four men forced themselves into the home.

Lash's wife ran out the back door, holding their 6-month-old daughter and calling 911.

Whitney Lash said it's a miracle she and the baby weren't wounded, and she is grateful her husband is recovering.

The couple's 2-year-old son was taking a nap inside the home during the ordeal.

Police arrested 18-year-old Brandon Jerome Smith, but three alleged accomplices are still at large.
