'Worst Day Ever?' New York teen's surprising poem goes viral

NEW YORK -- A poem with a surprisingly optimistic ending written by a Brooklyn high school student is taking the world by storm, thanks to social media.

A man in the United Kingdom saw the poem tacked to the wall of a bar in North London and posted a picture of it on Twitter.

While reading the poem from top to bottom might seem like a dark view of the world today, reading it from bottom to top completely changes the message.

The author of this creative and insightful poem is Chanie Gorkin, an 11th grader from Brooklyn, New York. She attends an all-girls school and lives in the Hasidic Community of Crown Heights.

Her mother confirmed to ABC that Chanie is the author of the poem. She posted the poem on poetrynation.com but her mom said Chanie is unable to comment at this time because she is busy having too much fun at summer camp.

Poetry Nation reports that the girl's mother also gave the poem some momentum by sharing it with her friends on Facebook. She was shocked that it took off the way it did.

Today was the absolute worst day ever
And don't try to convince me that
There's something good in every day
Because, when you take a closer look,
This world is a pretty evil place.
Even if
Some goodness does shine through once in a while
Satisfaction and happiness don't last.
And it's not true that
It's all in the mind and heart
Because
True happiness can be obtained
Only if one's surroundings are good
It's not true that good exists
I'm sure you can agree that
The reality
Creates
My attitude
It's all beyond my control
And you'll never in a million years hear me say that
Today was a good day
