CHINO HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- Diwali, one of the most popular holidays in Indian culture, began Thursday. For millions of people around the world who are members of the Hindu, Sikh and Jain faith, the celebration brings families and friends together.

One of Southern California's largest festivals happens every year at BAPS Hindu temple in Chino Hills.

"Coming back again this year has been an amazing experience and reuniting again with a lot of friends that we haven't seen in a while," said Minal Mistry of Chino Hills.

Friday marks the new year for devotees of the faith. During the five days of Diwali, prayers are offered, along with an assortment of food laid in front of altars.

During nighttime, the temple in Chino Hills holds a light show that illuminates the entire complex. The light show is open to the public and runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
