Armed man barricaded inside DTLA hotel
Police say a man armed with a shotgun has barricaded himself inside a room at the Union Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A suspect has been taken into custody after allegedly pulling out a shotgun during an argument with a neighbor and then barricading himself inside a hotel room in downtown Los Angeles for at least six hours, police said.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a standoff at the Union Hotel in the 700 block of E. 9th Street shortly after 3 a.m.

The suspect allegedly got into an argument with his neighbor and pulled out a shotgun.

His neighbor ran and called police, at which point the suspect barricaded himself inside a hotel room.

A tactical vehicle known as a BearCat was brought in, along with a SWAT team to try to coax the suspect to surrender.

The third floor of the Union Hotel in which the standoff took place was evacuated, police said. Hotel guests were loaded onto an MTA bus and taken to the LAPD station on S. San Pedro and E. 3rd streets.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday, tear gas was deployed into the hotel room and the suspect was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.

Ninth Street was shut down in the area during the investigation.
