Food truck owner killed by gang crossfire in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- A food truck owner was shot to death in Santa Ana on Sunday and detectives believe he was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a gang rivalry.

Eliu Armando Gramajo, 52, was shot while working in his food truck on the 1700 block of S. Evergreen Street at about 7:20 p.m., according to Santa Ana police.

Gramajo was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

"We were just in shock and they told us he was sent to the hospital so we rushed over there right away. By the time we got over there, he was already gone," Gramajo's nephew, who did not wish to be identified, said.

According to police, Gramajo was not the intended target.

"There was fresh graffiti at the location, and this is a rival gang area, so at this point, we believe the shooter in this case are gang members," Cpl. Anthony Bertagna with the Santa Ana Police Department said.

Gramajo was married and a father of four.

"He was just a good all around person. A good family guy, always there for his family. He meant the world to us," Gramajo's nephew said.

Gang violence and rivalry were not new to the area. Police were seeking the public's help to find Gramajo's killer and the family pleaded for witnesses to come forward.

"I just hope someone who saw this steps up and at least gives us some information," Gramajo's nephew said.
