Matthew McConaughey returned to the University of Texas to give his alma mater's football team a pep talk, and his delivery was fitting for the Oscar-winning actor.

"I found that when I've done my best work as an actor, it was only when I pushed myself to be better than I even thought I could be, and I got a pretty high idea of how good I can be," he told the players. "I still don't think I've done my best work until I pushed myself further than even I think I can be."

McConaughey delivered that speech to the Longhorn players last Thursday. The team has a huge test when they take on the seventh-ranked Baylor Bears Saturday.

The Longhorns were recovering from a shattering loss the week before. McConaughey channeled his role as a football coach in "We Are Marshall."

"At the end of the day, every single one of you is really only got to be playing for one person," he said. "When you do well, you feel it, and you can look in the mirror, and you go, 'That's right. I earned that.'"
