LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Rapunzel is about to let her hair down and get tangled up in the TV world. The Disney animated movie, "Tangled," is heading to the small screen as a series on the Disney Channel.
The film's voice stars, Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, have signed on to reprise their roles as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.
The duo responsible for the film's music, Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater, will also return.
"The genius of the original movie was its seamless blending of cinematic adventure, character-driven comedy and touching emotion. And we are fortunate to have several of the creative talent from that movie on board with this new production," said Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer at Disney Channels Worldwide.
The series is the latest step in the Disney franchise, following the animated feature's success. "Tangled," which debuted in November 2010, opened with $68.7 million and went on to earn $200 million domestically, and more than $593 million globally.
The animated TV series is set to premiere in 2017.
Disney is the parent company of ABC7.
