FONTANA, Calif. (KABC) -- Fontana police officers shot and injured a man who ran from them during a domestic dispute investigation.

Authorities responded to the 8900 block of Date Street at about 2 a.m. due to a husband and wife who were shouting at each other.

The husband had already left the home with a friend when officers arrived. They were sitting in the husband's car, a silver Pontiac Vibe, which was parked down the street.

Police were speaking to the husband when the friend fled from the car on foot. Authorities say the passenger had a gun, but it was not yet clear if he had produced the weapon.

An officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was shot once in the lower leg and was expected to survive.

Investigators say they do not believe the suspect fired his weapon.

The husband was ultimately detained for the investigation. Police say he had a prior warrant for his arrest.
