WAUKESHA, Wis. (KABC) -- Two 12-year-old Wisconsin girls who stabbed their friend 19 times were charged with intentional homicide in adult court Monday.
The victim, also 12 years old, survived the attack on Saturday in Waukesha thanks to a Good Samaritan's quick actions. A bicyclist spotted the bleeding victim after she crawled out of the woods and immediately called police, who at first seemed stunned.
"Yes, she's breathing," the bicyclist told a dispatcher. "She says she can take shallow breaths. She's alert."
The victim was allegedly lured into the woods by her middle school classmates Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, both 12, and left for dead.
"Once there, one suspect held down the victim while the other suspect stabbed the victim 19 times in the arms, legs and torso," said Chief Russell Jack of the Waukesha Police Department.
After staggering out of the woods, the Good Samaritan calmly reassured the girl while waiting for help to arrive.
"There's a squad car coming right now," he told her.
Within four minutes, Waukesha police arrived and rushed the victim to a local hospital, where she remains listed in stable condition.
Geyser and Weier were picked up within hours of the attack and later charged as adults with attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
The girls say they planned the attack as a way to win favor and become agents for a fictional Internet character called Slenderman.
Slenderman is a paranormal being who lurks near forests and absorbs, kills or carries off his victims. By carrying out the killing, the girls thought they could then walk to his proverbial mansion.
Weier allegedly packed a picture of her family in her backpack, because she thought she would never go home.
"The bad part of me wanted her to die. The good part of me wanted her to live," she told police.
