IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- The Irvine Meadows Amphitheater is closing down after 35 years and appropriately enough it was an Orange County native, singer Gwen Stefani, who helped close it out with a final concert.
The theater, previously known as the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, is scheduled to be torn down to make way for an Irvine Company project to build new apartment homes.
Many in the Orange County crowd were sad to see the 16,000-seat venue close.
"Tonight is one of the most special nights for all of us and I'm so honored to be from Orange County and to be here with you tonight," Stefani told the crowd.
