HEMET, Calif. (KABC) -- After a flash flood swept through a neighborhood in Hemet, residents are now drying out their homes.
In one residence, furniture is pulled away from soggy walls and fans are on full blast. Joe Gomez points out that the water came in about five to six inches high in his father-in-law's home.
"The damage is five to six inches of water on the drywall all ready, so that has to come out due to the mildew," he said.
Gomez is helping salvage what he can from inside the home. Outside, muddy lawn chairs are rinsed off and nearby piles of wet carpet sit beside ruined belongings.
Another homeowner, Joshua Haskin, has no flood insurance, but he's receiving plenty of help from his family.
The water in his home got so high that it filled up his dryer and his grandmother's car. He removed portions of drywall from the garage that is still soaked from the mud and water.
He said the problem is that the drains around the neighborhood are stopped.
"It's just a mess and then the city says they won't do nothing because it's not the city's fault, it's not the county's fault - we're annexed," he said.
Mike Jacomet received some damage to his property, but considers himself luckier than most of his neighbors because he set up his home so that the water and mud remain outside of his home.
