HYDE PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Police are looking for a suspect after a woman was shot multiple times in Hyde Park early Wednesday morning. Her car was riddled with bullets.

The Los Angeles Police Department received a call of a shooting near the intersection of 11th Avenue and West 71st Street around 3 a.m. Police say they found the victim inside the car, which had at least 20 bullet holes.

"The lady was coming from probably a club. She parked her car and almost instantaneously someone drove past and fired multiple rounds into her vehicle, causing injury to her," LAPD Det. Ernie Mendoza said.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. Police said she suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. She underwent surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit.

Residents said it sounded like a gun battle. Nadine Williams heard the shots. The first thing she thought of was the victim.

"I just said, 'Jesus, keep whoever it is in mind.' Hopefully they stayed alive," Williams said.

Some residents told Eyewitness News there has been a lot of gang violence in the area, and they suspect this incident may be gang related. Police are not sure if gangs were involved in this shooting.

A motive behind the shooting was not known. Police did not have a suspect description.

It has been a violent few days in L.A. Over the weekend, the LAPD says there were 19 shootings; four people were killed. Most of those shootings were gang related.

Anyone with information on Wednesday's shooting was asked to contact the LAPD at (877) 527-3247.
