IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- Power has been restored for more than 8,000 Southern California Edison customers in the Irvine area after an outage that lasted for several hours on Thursday.
Orange County Fire Authority crews responded to a transformer fire at a Southern California Edison substation on the 1500 block of Sand Canyon Avenue around 5 p.m., and quickly brought the blaze under control within 50 minutes.
The fire initially left 8,000 people in the area without power. By 7 p.m., that number rose to 26,592 customers. Power was restored around 12:45 a.m. Friday.
"Thanks for your patience, @City_of_Irvine, and thanks to our best-in-class crews: power has been restored. Have a good night," Edison tweeted.
