'Candylebrity' showcases sweet celebrity portraits
Artist Jason Mecier's candy portraits will be on display at Sweet! in the Hollywood and Highland complex all summer.

HOLLYWOOD (KABC) -- A one-of-a-kind sugar-filled art exhibit features 20 celebrity portraits all made with candy.

Artist Jason Mecier had his eye on Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston. He created portraits of both "Breaking Bad" stars. And since they played crystal meth dealers, he used rock candy to bring his vision to life.

"I like people who can be in on the joke," Mecier said.

Case in point: comedian Zach Galifinakis made entirely out of gummy bears, and a green Miley Cyrus sticking out her tongue.

"I like the edge and I like people with strong personalities, people who are more colorful, fun and kind of could take it," Mecier said.

That includes sugar-coated "Dance Mom" Abby Lee Miller, plus other reality stars, including Big Ang from "Mob Wives" and Lisa Vanderpump from "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills."

Don't worry, he didn't forget Jiggy!

Mecier, who does not nibble on his art supplies, used one brand of candy for all 20 pieces.

"Judge Judy, Mario Lopez and Chuy from Chelsea Handler, those are all Hot Tamale portraits," Mecier said.

He focused on orange and black candy for the cast of the Netflix hit, "Orange Is The New Black," using candy corn as the background.

All this creativity started a long time ago.

"I started with macaroni art in the old days, where I would just do Charlie's Angels out of macaroni, and then candy was more colorful than noodles," Mecier said.

Some of his art not at this exhibit includes portraits of people who have passed: Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Farrah Fawcett and Steve Jobs.

He's also done Kevin Bacon in bacon, and he couldn't throw away the opportunity to turn Honey Boo Boo into art.

"I did Honey Boo Boo out of 25 pounds of trash, that was one of my best pieces," Mecier said. "Her picture has like cheese balls and pork rinds, they love it, they have one, they have a picture in their house."

But ladies, maybe you'd prefer Channing Tatum in yours.

Mecier's work is on display at Sweet! in the Hollywood and Highland complex all summer.
