ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. (KABC) -- The body of John Richard King, a 63-year-old avid hiker, has been found days after he went missing in the Angeles National Forest north of Sierra Madre, authorities announced Saturday.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Altadena station confirmed the discovery. Detectives reported King's body was found in the water below Hermit Falls by the Antelope Valley Search and Rescue Team.

Authorities said it appeared King slipped and fell 40 feet into the water. His family arrived to positively identify his body.

Search and rescue crews had been searching in the Chantry Flat area after King's wife reported him missing Thursday evening.
