LOS ANGELES -- How PERFECT is this casting? WE are fangirling.
Katey Sagal, who plays fearless Gemma Teller Morrow on FX's "Sons of Anarchy" and is also known for her past role of saucy matriarch Peggy Bundy on "Married With Children," has joined the cast of the musical comedy film "Pitch Perfect 2."
Director and actress Elizabeth Banks revealed the news on her website and Instagram on Wednesday, May 14, along with a photo of the actress holding a microphone (see below).
"The fantastic Katey Sagal has joined our #PitchPerfect 2 fam as Hailee Steinfeld's mom. Are we fangirling yet?" she wrote.
"I'm a fan of this myself! xo," Sagal tweeted in response.
Proud husband and "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter also revealed the news on his Twitter page.
Sagal is best known for her television work but is also an accomplished singer. She was a member of the band The Group With No Name in the 1970s and has also sung backup for Bette Midler. She released her debut album, "Well...," in 1994, and a new record, "Covered," in 2013.
Sagal sang on a 1996 episode of "Married With Children" and has also performed songs featured on episodes of "Sons of Anarchy" as well as the animated show "Futurama," in which she portrayed Turanga Leela.
"Pitch Perfect 2" marks Sagal's most prominent film project. She has appeared in movies such as the new indie "There's Always Woodstock," the 2010 movie "Jack and the Beanstalk" and the 2006 film "I'm Reed Fish."
"Pitch Perfect 2," the sequel to the 2012 hit "Pitch Perfect," marks the directorial debut for Banks, who plays Gail. In addition to her and Steinfeld, previously announced cast members include returning stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow. The original film was about rival college a capella groups vying for a championship title in a national contest. It made more than $113 million worldwide and spurred a hit soundtrack.
"Pitch Perfect 2" is set for release in May 2015.
